Use this Tool to:

learn more about the seven determinants and reflect on each of them in your school context.

Pre-Meeting Prep:

Suggested Timing:

60-90 minutes (could be split into two sessions)

Steps:

1. Create seven random groups and assign each group one of the seven determinant to explore. Provide the group with the determinant description document and placemat.

2. In this group, read through the documents and complete the placemat reflecting on how that determinant is reflected in your school. It may be helpful to have data to help inform thinking.

3. Once completed, share your placemat with the staff, giving everyone an opportunity to add to it. This could be through a gallery walk or presenting to the whole staff. This could also be done as a jigsaw activity where new groups are formed from with a member of each determinant team.

Additional Notes:

Extend on this activity by using the What’s Tricky tool to have staff identify what might be most important to address as part of determining your strategic question.
